AUSTRALIAN BUREAU OF STATISTICS (ABS) – HOUSEHOLD INCOME AND EXPENDITURE SURVEY 2009-2010 CONSTITUENTS MAY BE INTERVIEWED
The Member for Berowra, Philip Ruddock seeks the assistance of constituents by encouraging the participation, of those selected, in the Australian Bureau of Statistics’ six-yearly Household Income and Expenditure Survey (HIES).
“The 2009-2010 Household Income and Expenditure Survey, being run from July 2009 to June 2010, is a very important survey supporting a wide range of uses by government and the community,” Mr Ruddock said.
“For this survey the ABS is seeking the cooperation of 18,000 households across Australia (about 1 in 500 households) and it is very likely that some of my constituents will be selected to participate at some stage during the Survey.
“One critical use made of the Household Income and Expenditure Survey is to update the commodity weights used in compiling the Consumer Price Index. Without this information the capacity of the CPI to be used in monitoring inflation would be compromised.
“All 18,000 households responding to the survey will be asked for information on their demographic and socioeconomic characteristics (including education, labour force status, child care arrangements, disability status and perceptions of financial situation) and financial details (for income, assets, liabilities and expenditure on housing).
“I ask constituents to support this important survey and seek your willingness to cooperate in being interviewed,” Philip Ruddock said.
