WHITE RIBBON DAY
The Member for Berowra, Philip Ruddock MP encourages constituents to support White Ribbon Day, next Wednesday 25th November, which is an opportunity for all sectors of our local community to commit to eliminating violence against women.
“One in three Australian women will experience sexual or physical violence in their lifetime and as a community we have a responsibility to address the culture of violence wherever it exists,” Mr Ruddock said.
“This year White Ribbon has launched the White Ribbon Challenge, giving all individuals the chance to be Champions, and community groups and organisations the opportunity to express their commitment to an end to violence against women.”
“Men in my electorate should take up the challenge and take the White Ribbon oath on Wednesday. This needs to be a fundamental social change which categorically says that violence against women is not on. Sadly, some research suggests that young people in particular think that it’s still acceptable on some level to hit a woman.”
“Every woman in every community deserves to feel safe and be treated like a human being.”
“I encourage all local residents to be part of White Ribbon day and to learn more about how we can work together to eliminate violence. The website
www.whiteribbonday.org.au has some great resources and also contains the oath for men,” Philip Ruddock said.
