CHRISTMAS PARCELS ON THEIR WAY TO AUSSIE TROOPS
Federal MP Philip Ruddock said he had been ‘overwhelmed’ by the response to his request for Christmas parcels to be sent to Australian soldiers serving overseas.
‘Christmas is a time when families come together to enjoy each others’ company, so it is a particularly poignant time for those who have family serving in our Defence Forces, particularly those stationed in the world’s trouble spots.’
‘Berowra constituents from Beecroft to Brooklyn answered the call and delivered cheerful parcels to Australia Post for despatch overseas.’
Mr Ruddock said many people had also delivered items to his Electorate Office where his staff ‘worked as hard as Santa’s elves’ packing parcels which he then took to Pennant Hills Post Office.
Soldiers in Afghanistan, the Middle East, the Solomon Islands and East Timor will receive gifts of sweets, toiletries, magazines, biscuits and socks.
Mr Ruddock said many items he received in his office were provided for the handlers and dogs of the Explosive Detection team in Afghanistan.
‘People gave Frisbees, dog treats, tennis balls and other dog toys, to brighten Christmas morning for the handlers and their dogs.’
‘I would just like to thank all the generous people who made such an effort to help show our overseas troops that their work and sacrifice is very much appreciated by those at home.’
