LOCAL PROJECT RECEIVES FUNDING
Mount St Benedict College at Pennant Hills has received $30,000 from the Sydney Metropolitan Catchment Management Authority to fund the Blue Gum High Forest Restoration.
Local Federal MP Philip Ruddock said he understood the grant would help protect and rehabilitate remnant Blue Gum High Forest Endangered Ecological Community through bush regeneration activities.
‘I am particularly pleased that there will be a special focus on working to encourage youth to participate in conservation activities.’
Activities to be undertaken at Mount St Benedict College as part of the project will include –
· Holding awareness raising events such as field days and community workshops to promote goals and engage the local community
· Production of an educational brochure, and
· Primary control of invasive weeds at the site.
Mr Ruddock went on to say the remnant Blue Gum High Forest community provides an essential corridor for wildlife in the local area, particularly as development has diminished it over time.
