WORKING FAMILIES WILL PAY
The Gillard Government’s determination to bring in a carbon tax is going to put an added cost burden on families already struggling with rising household bills.
‘Minister Combet’s announcement that families will be compensated clearly underscores not only that the carbon tax will be a cost to families – but also that it seems a gesture lacking direction’.
Federal Member for Berowra Philip Ruddock said he feels the fundamental issue here is that ‘a carbon tax is not going to change the temperature or the climate.’
‘It is merely a meaningless gesture. What is the point of taking money from people, funnelling it off to a new bureaucracy and then creating another layer of bureaucracy to hand some of that money back to the people who paid it in the first place?’
Mr Ruddock confirmed that many locals had contacted his Electorate Office to voice their opposition to the introduction of a carbon tax.
‘There have been a few who support the idea, but I can tell you they are by far the minority’.
