National Families Week – 15-21 May 2011

15-21 May 2011 marks National Families Week and coincides with the United Nations International Day of Families on 15 May.

The Federal Member for Berowra, the Hon Philip Ruddock MP, has for many years been a strong supporter of families.

“The Coalition recognises that the family is the foundation of our society, Mr Ruddock said.

“Helping families is a matter of national importance and we cannot have a strong future without strong families”, he added.

This theme of this year’s National Families Week is “Sticking together: families in good and tough times”.

Families Australia, which manages the Week, states that the aim is to “encourage everyone to think about the things that make their family strong in both good and tough times whatever their circumstances” and “explore ways we can support each other - in our families and communities - through all the ups and downs of daily life.”

“During National Families Week I want to encourage all families to make time for each other and consider how they can support each other”, Mr Ruddock said.

“It is also time for employers, Governments and non-Government organisations to recognise the value of families and consider how they improve their policies towards families”, he said.

Mr Ruddock believes that we should also take this opportunity to honour the contribution of families to our society as it often goes unrecognised.

Mr Ruddock has extensive involvement with family issues in the Berowra Electorate and his staff would be more than happy to discuss the range of options available to participate in National Families Week.

There is a lot of pressure on families with rising costs of living and economic uncertainty making people fearful for their jobs.

“If you deal with problems early, you may be able to head off some of the more difficult issues that arise from family disputation and separation”, Mr Ruddock said.

“Please take the opportunity to consider ways to nurture and promote the wellbeing of your family”, he said.
