RUDDOCK VISITS HORNSBY SOUTH PUBLIC SCHOOL
Monday was the beginning of a busy week at Hornsby South Public School.
Multicultural Day saw students attend in their national dress, making a vibrant and colourful display as they paraded around the playground.
There are students from 48 nationalities attending the school and their costumes reflected their varied backgrounds – Korea, India, China, Africa, Scotland and many other countries were represented, along with a variety of dress depicting the Australian lifestyle.
Approximately 60% of the school community has English as their second language.
Local Federal Member, Philip Ruddock watched with Acting Principal, Kerry Maxwell as each class paraded before a delighted gathering of parents and guests.
A former Minister for Immigration & Multicultural Affairs, Mr Ruddock spoke warmly of the obvious harmony within the school, musing that these children are our hope for the future.
‘Accepting one another for who they are and embracing differences as well as similarities are values to be encouraged.’
Mr Ruddock presented a book of Banjo Paterson’s poems to the school library during his visit.
Later in the week students will participate in the school Athletic Carnival, some will go on an excursion, and there will also be a French theme day to round off the activities.
