CONTRACT AWARDED FOR F3 WIDENING - BETWEEN COWAN AND MT COLAH

JOINT ANNOUNCEMENT AT THE OVERHEAD BRIDGE -
AT KU-RING-GAI CHASE ROAD - FRIDAY 12TH JANUARY - 10 A.M.

The Member for Berowra, Philip Ruddock MP today praised the Federal Roads Minister Jim Lloyd MP regarding the announcement of a construction contract has been awarded for the widening of the F3 freeway to three lanes in each direction between Cowan and Mt Colah.

“Both Judy Hopwood, MP, the Member for Hornsby and I have been working hard for this to eventuate,” Mr Ruddock said.

“BMD Major Projects was awarded the contract for the $119 million project, which includes widening an 11.5 kilometre section of the F3 freeway from two lanes in each direction, to three lanes in each direction between Cowan and Mt Colah."

“This project will reduce traffic congestion and improve travel times for the 75,000 motorists who use the freeway daily,” Philip Ruddock said.

The project will be funded and built under the AusLink agreement with the Australian Government contributing 80 per cent of the cost and the NSW Government contributing 20 per cent.

This will improve the capacity of the F3; the widening project will improve road safety by eliminating merge points.

“The project will complete three travel lanes in each direction between Wahroonga and the Kariong turnoff to Gosford, and follows on from the successful widening of the freeway between Calga and Jolls Bridge, which was undertaken between 2002 and 2004," Philip Ruddock said.

“Now that the contract has been awarded it is expected that construction work will commence in early 2007 and motorists are advised that during construction revised traffic arrangements will be in place for safety purposes, including a reduced speed limit.”
