WAITARA PUBLIC SCHOOL RECEIVES INVESTING IN OUR SCHOOLS FUNDING - LOCAL MEMBER CELEBRATES WITH SCHOO
The Federal Member for Berowra, Philip Ruddock MP will visit Waitara Public School on Monday 2nd April 2007 at 9.15 a.m. to celebrate the completion of electrical upgrade and playground improvement projects. Waitara Public School received $115,604 under the Investing in Our Schools Programme.
This funding has allowed the construction of new, safer playground equipment and an electrical upgrade which will enable air-conditioning to be installed throughout the school.
“The $1 billion Investing in Our Schools Programme was announced by the Prime Minister during the 2004 federal election campaign and in February 2007, was increased by $181 million. $127 million will be provided for state government schools and $54 million for non-government schools in Australia,” Mr Ruddock said.
The Programme will now provide a total of $827 million for government schools to fund small scale infrastructure projects identified and prioritised by school communities. A total of $354 million will be provided for non-government schools over the life of the Programme.
“By focusing on delivering small-scale projects that have been identified as a priority by school communities, the Australian Government is providing local communities with a voice to determine what they think is important for their schools.
“Successful applications for 2006 Round Three have been announced, bringing the total amount of approved projects for IOSP funding to more than 15,000, providing important benefits to around 6,161 government schools across Australia,” Philip Ruddock said.
Government school communities are able to apply for funding for such projects as air-conditioning, shade structures, computer equipment and upgrades, musical and sporting equipment. Funding under the Programme is in addition to the nearly $1.7 billion provided by the Government.
