The Member for Berowra, Philip Ruddock MP said today that he was pleased that funding has been approved for a project with the Catholic Education Office Broken Bay.
“Funding approved is for the amount of $5,813 from the Australian Government’s Whole of School Intervention Strategy for the Indigenous Student Residential Program,” Mr Ruddock said.
Schools that will benefit are: Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Primary School Waitara; and St Patrick’s Catholic Primary School Asquith.
The Whole of School Intervention Strategy focuses on the implementation of innovative approaches to improve the educational outcomes of Indigenous school students.
The Program encourages schools, Indigenous parents and communities to work together in partnership to improve Indigenous students’ attendance, literacy and numeracy skills, retention from Years 10 to 12, Year 12 results and early childhood initiatives focusing on your Indigenous children or their parents.
“The main aim is to provide the targeted years’ groups with the necessary study skills for their journey through to Year 12 and the related exams, skills in time management and planning and opportunities to consider future career and study options and develop pathways to them,” Philip Ruddock said.
