LOCAL ORGANISATIONS NOMINATE FOR AWARDS

Philip Ruddock MP, Federal Member for Berowra today welcomed nominations for the fourth biennial National Child Protection Awards, which highlight and commend organisations who are making a positive contribution to children’s lives by reducing and preventing child abuse and neglect.

“I encourage local organisations within the community to nominate for this year’s National Child Protection Awards,” Mr Ruddock said.

The Awards are an opportunity to recognise and reward the effort that so many organisations across Australia, and in our local community, put into addressing issues child abuse and neglect.

This year’s Awards, which will be presented on 20 November 2005, have been designed to separately acknowledge the efforts of smaller organisations from those of other organisations.

“Awards will be presented in a number of categories including Community Development, Capacity Building and Strengthening, Indigenous Services and Supporting Service Providers. Each of the winners will receive $2,500.

“The Australian Council for Children and Parenting (ACCAP) started the Awards in 1999 to acknowledge and congratulate organisations for significant contributions to preventing child abuse and neglect,” Philip Ruddock said.

The Australian Government is committed to ensuring all children have a healthy and safe home life by providing funding each year to a number of national organisations, including ACCAP, to help combat child abuse and neglect, and support children at risk.

“I encourage organisations in our local community to nominate for the National Child Protection Awards, which will help raise public awareness about the issue of child abuse and neglect in all communities,” Mr Ruddock said.

Nominations close on Thursday 21 July, 2005. Nomination packages are available from the Department of Family and Community Services on 02 6212 9199 or visit www.facs.gov.au/accap.
