LOCAL FEDERAL MP WELCOMES F3 TO M7 REVIEW

The Member for Berowra, Philip Ruddock MP today welcomed the Minister for Local Government, Territories & Roads, the Hon Jim Lloyd MP’s release of the Report on the Review of the F3 to M7 Corridor Selection.

The Review held by the Hon Marla Pearlman invited submissions and public meetings were held. Fifty three submissions were received and public hearings were held in June.

The Hon Marla Pearlman submitted her report to Mr Lloyd on 31 August 2007 and after reading the Report, the Minister has now released the details.

In her Review, the Hon Marla Pearlman addressed directly all of the concerns raised by local residents and organisations.

“I would encourage all those interested in this matter to read the Report closely. It makes clear that only a direct F3 M2 link along the Pennant Hills Road corridor would address the present traffic difficulties and ensure that it was capable of handling projected increases in use,” Mr Ruddock said.

“A Western Orbital Route would not address the looming traffic crisis but it would be necessary in twenty years time and for this reason the Hon Marla Pearlman has urged planning for it now and she makes it clear that this is a responsibility for the state government.”

The Review has confirmed the original decision by the Government to provide a link between the F3 and M2, broadly along the alignment of Pennant Hills Road. It recommended that:

• the preferred route follow the Purple Option and that this now be progressed to the next stages of investigation including: detailed design, economic and financial assessment and environmental impact assessment; and
• a Option C (western) corridor be planned now.

“I have noted from the Hon Marla Pearlman’s Report that it has identified a small number of matters that will require some deliberation in the preparation of an environmental impact statement and public consultation would be a key element in taking the project forward and determining the precise route for the link,” Philip said.

“I thank Mr Lloyd for the time he has taken to appoint the Hon Marla Pearlman and the subsequent results of the Review and ultimately the Report and also to constituents who have played an integral role in putting forward their views.”
