SCHOOL CHAPLAINCY PROGRAM ROUND TWO - SIX SUCCESSFUL LOCAL SCHOOLS
The Member for Berowra, Philip Ruddock today announced that six (6) schools will each receive an Australian Government grant of up to $60,000 per year for three years, under the second round of the National School Chaplaincy Program – this in total makes eleven (11) schools and a total of $620,000 under the two rounds. The successful schools are:
Cheltenham Girls High School
Pacific Hills Christian School
Loreto Normanhurst
Northholm Grammar School
Roselea Public School
Mount St Benedict College (Pennant Hills)
“I congratulate these schools, as this important funding will assist them to provide pastoral care, and support student wellbeing and spiritual development,” Mr Ruddock said.
“School chaplains are already making valuable contributions to the personal, spiritual and emotional wellbeing of many school communities nationally. There has been an enthusiastic demand for this Australian Government Program, with nearly 3,000 schools applying for funding overall in 2007.”
The Howard Government has invested $165 million over three years to make vital chaplaincy services available to schools across the country. Through Round Two of the Program, 1,238 schools will receive grants totalling $69.2 million. This brings to a total 2,630 schools which have been granted funding under the Program.
“The Chaplaincy program, announced by the Prime Minister last October, will help many schools access these services for the first time, as well as enabling the expansion of many existing chaplaincy services,” Philip Ruddock said.
