LOCAL VOLUNTEERS AND AUSAID VOLUNTEERS RECEIVE CERTIFICATES
The Member for Berowra, Philip Ruddock MP today congratulated local volunteers and overseas volunteers (AusAid) from his electorate of Berowra who will be officially recognised by the Australian Government.
They will be presented with Certificates of Appreciation by the Philip Ruddock at a ceremony in Hornsby on Friday 26th October 2007 at Hornsby RSL Club.
“The Certificates of Appreciation formally acknowledge the contribution made by local volunteers and to Australia’s overseas aid program and represent the thanks of the nation for their altruistic service,” Mr Ruddock said.
Local volunteers came from all walks of life, such as Meals on Wheels, St John Ambulance, support to aged and frail, church workers and the Guides movement.
“Volunteers play a vital role in the Australian Government’s overseas aid program. In 2006-07, almost 900 Australian volunteers represented Australia overseas as either volunteers or Youth Ambassadors. This ensured that, for the second year, the Prime Minister’s commitment to double the AYAD program was met,” Philip Ruddock said.
