CELEBRATING AUSTRALIA DAY 2008
The Member for Berowra, Philip Ruddock MP said today that he is looking forward to Australia Day – A day for all Australians to celebrate the role of migration in our great country.
“This Saturday, 26th January is Australia Day, a day for all Australians and in particular constituents of the Federal electorate of Berowra to celebrate being Australians, and living in Australia. It is a day to celebrate our country and the contribution that we each make to our family, our community and our nation. It is also a day to reflect on our migration heritage and its role in the success of our great country,” Mr Ruddock said.
“Australia is a country built upon migration and Australia Day is a great day to celebrate the contribution of all migrants, our recent arrivals, our ancestors who came to this great land and their descendents. I am pleased to be attending, with my wife Heather, Hornsby Shire Council’s Australia Day and Citizenship ceremony in The Mall at Hornsby.”
Life in Australia is full of the challenges of nature, already this year we have experienced bushfires, floods and of course much of our nation is suffering the effects of the drought. Natural disaster, important local issues, individual struggle and of course triumph is part of life in Australia.
“Australia Day is a day is a day to celebrate our strong sense of community spirit and it is a day for all of us to celebrate being Australian, acknowledging the opportunities this great nation offers us,” Philip Ruddock said.
