WOOLWORTHS AGAINS ORGANISE DROUGHT ACTION DAY 08 -FRIDAY 15TH FEBRUARY
The Member for Berowra, Philip Ruddock MP has urged constituents to support Woolworths’ Drought Action Day 08 to be held this Friday 15 February with Woolworths Supermarkets again giving an entire day's profit to the farming community.
“Although recent rains and improved climate forecasts have lifted the spirits of Australia’s farmers and rural communities it will be difficult for some years for those on the land to recover,” Mr Ruddock said.
“Recovery from drought takes time with rain alone not an instant solution The reality is that for many - 2008 may well be an even tougher year than 2007,” Philip Ruddock said.
Woolworths hopes to raise $5 million through their Drought Action Day 08 on Friday 15 with all money going to the Country Women’s Association to be distributed to families in need.
“The money will assist families pay for essentials such as groceries, fuel, power and telephone bills and other household expenses and I urge locals in my electorate to get behind this day,” Philip Ruddock said.
