MORE WORK FOR THE DOLE PLACES – 35 ADDITIONAL PLACES
Philip Ruddock MP, Member for Berowra today welcomed 35 additional places in the Work for the Dole program in the local area.
The sponsor is Step Skills Training Employment Program Inc., under the auspices of the Uniting Church and their program will train 20 participants to design and build innovative websites for eight non-profit organisations; and train 15 participants to assist various non-profit oganisations with all aspects of event management including marketing, administration and general office duties.
“These programs will assist Work for the Dole 35 local participants to improve their prospects of finding a job and will run until mid-September/October,” Philip Ruddock said.
Since Work for the Dole was set up in late 1997, 23,252 projects have been approved across Australia, providing places for 352,174 unemployed people.
Whether it is building playground equipment, restoring historic buildings or helping local tourism operations, Work for the Dole participants are making a very positive contribution to society.
The Howard Government is firmly committed to Work for the Dole. It has proved the principle of mutual obligation and it is at the forefront of work experience programs around the world.
"I especially congratulate the local Community Work Coordinators and project sponsors who have successfully proposed these very worthwhile projects in Berowra electorate as they are doing a great job in bringing benefits to both local unemployed people and to local communities,” Mr Ruddock said.
