$13,000 LOCAL FUNDING UNDER THE BUSHFIRE MITIGATION PROGRAM
The Member for Berowra, Philip Ruddock MP said today that he was pleased with the announcement that the Federal government is providing funding of $13,000 for strategic works on bushfire trails in 2007-2008.
“These projects will enhance the accessibility and effectiveness of fire trail networks, increasing the safety of fire fighting personnel and the rapidity with which they are able to access fires,” Mr Ruddock said.
The projects that have received grants are namely: Idlewild APZ Train Restoration at Glenorie for $6,000; and Orana Road APZ Perimeter Trail – Stage at Kenthurst for $7,000.
Fire trails are important and an effective fire trail network by implementing hazard reduction to protect communities and their social, cultural, environmental, and economic assets.
The Bushfire Mitigation Program is a national program aimed at identifying and addressing bushfire mitigation risk priorities across the nation. Applications are now sought for the 2008-09 funding round with a closing date of 30 June 2008.
