RUDDOCK DISMISSES ‘NEWCASTLE NONSENSE’.
The Federal Member for Berowra, Philip Ruddock MP asks why anyone would even think of
Newcastle as a potential site for a new airport to serve Sydney’s needs when the existing traffic levels on the F3 and the problems motorists face on Pennant Hills Road would make accessing it a complete disaster.
He was commenting on calls by the NSW Premier for the Williamstown RAAF base to become the second airport, which all seem to agree is rapidly becoming essential.
Badgery’s Creek was, in Mr Ruddock’s opinion, the right site for a second airport. But it was sabotaged by State Labor which allowed subdivisions to develop with increasing proximity to the land needed, thereby allowing opponents to build a case on environmental grounds.
“The land should have been set aside with enforced restrictions,” Mr Ruddock said.
“Rather than crying crocodile tears, the NSW Premier should admit that Newcastle is a foolish suggestion and set about finding a more realistic and financially viable solution to a problem which needs to be addressed comprehensively.”
“The projected increases in both freight and passenger requirements make it imperative that a proper plan be instigated,” Philip Ruddock said.
