ACKNOWLEDGING VIETNAM VETERANS' DAY AT BEROWRA
The Member for Berowra, Philip Ruddock MP yesterday attended the Vietnam Veterans’ Day at Berowra.
“I pay tribute to those courageous Australians who fought under the Australian Flag during the Vietnam War and I encourage all local residents to take a moment to remember those who served,” Mr Ruddock said.
“I commemorated Vietnam Veterans Day by laying a wreath at the Cenotaph at Berowra as it is important that we remember and honour those Australians who paid the ultimate sacrifice and did not return, but it is also a time to honour all those who served our country during the Vietnam War.”
Australia’s commitment saw almost 60,000 troops deployed during the 10 year war, many of which were National Servicemen.
It is on Vietnam Veterans Day that we also acknowledge one of the most intensive battles that our soldiers encountered during the Vietnam War that was the Battle of Long Tan.
“The resolve of the Australian soldiers was unbelievable, they were outnumbered by at least ten to one by the well mobilised Viet Cong forces, but our soldiers held their ground against their repeated attacks,” Philip Ruddock said.
