MEMBER WELCOMES PRODUCTIVITY COMMISSION
The Member for Berowra, Philip Ruddock MP welcomes the Productivity Commission’s interim report on paid parental leave and recognises that more needs to be done to address work / family balance issues.
“Paid maternity leave is at the very heart of our policy review on social and employment issues and I recognise the need to support all families with children and has long been supportive of practical measures to assist families with the costs associated with child-raising,” Mr Ruddock said.
“Our focus not only includes support at the time of a child’s birth, but importantly throughout early childhood and I know this as a grandfather.
“This will be integral to the Coalition’s response to the Productivity Commission’s final report and the issue of family support more broadly.
“It is also important that we maintain equitable arrangements for women, and the growing number of men, who choose to care for their children at home rather than return to paid work in the short term.
“Families deserve the necessary support to make decisions in light of their individual circumstances," Philip Ruddock said.
