LOCAL MEMBER ACKNOWLEDGES WORLD TEACHERS DAY

The Member for Berowra, Philip Ruddock MP today acknowledged World Teachers today which is a chance to recognise the excellent contribution teachers make in the electorate of Berowra.

“No one can deny the very important job our teachers have, however these days they seem to be in the media for all the wrong reasons – almost every state has had teacher strikes since Labor came to office federally,” Mr Ruddock said.

The Rudd Government promised an education revolution. The education reality is that they have only increased education funding by less than 1%!

The Computers in Schools program has become a national joke. Out of 116,000 computers meant to have been delivered nationally in the first round, only 10,000 have landed on desks. NSW has refused to participate, SA is replacing new for old and the ACT and WA have cited on-costs as high as $4 for every $1 of federal funding.

“Australian children, now more than ever, need the highest quality education. The best teachers produce the best students,” Philip Ruddock said.

“That’s why the Coalition plan for education at the next election will include policies that ensure that teachers are properly resourced, properly supported and properly rewarded.

“World Teachers Day is also an opportunity to congratulate outstanding teachers in our local schools.

“I’d like to acknowledge the outstanding contribution of teachers in the electorate of Berowra and encourage parents and students to give their favourite teacher a pat on the back,” Mr Ruddock said.
