CLEAN UP AUSTRALIA DAY 1ST MARCH - MEMBER URGES LOCALS TO BECOME INVOLVED

The Member for Berowra, Philip Ruddock MP urged locals to become involved in the 2009 Clean Up Australia Day.

“I will be helping at Pennant Hills Oval and its surrounds again and praise the large number of volunteers just not locally, but throughout my electorate who do so much to help,” Mr Ruddock said.

“I am informed that there is an increase this year of 15 per cent volunteers when compared with 2008, with an estimated 630,000 volunteers across the country taking part in the day.

“Constituents have always demonstrated what it means to be Australian and to get out there to help clean up in parks, waterways and general street litter.

“We are now all more conscious of plastic bag and plastic bottle recycling and also take greater pride in the appearance of our streets and countryside.

“I do urgent constituents to become involved even for just for one hour – every effort helps and do not hesitate to call Clean Up Australia by calling 9552 4468 or visiting their website cleanup.org.au and join up on line.

Last year in NSW there were 2926 Clean Up sites, 281,300 volunteers and 3500 tonnes of rubbish collected.
