SEAT OF BEROWRA - SUBURBS TO MISS OUT ON LABOR’S BROADBAND DEAL

The Member for Berowra, Philip Ruddock said today that suburbs in his electorate are specifically excluded from Labor’s fast broadband commitment.

The following suburbs and immediate surrounds in my electorate will miss out:

Brooklyn; Cowan; Pitt Town; Dangar Island; Glenorie; Kenthurst.

“In Australia over 1033 towns and locations have been neglected by Labor,” Mr Ruddock said.

“In the statement released yesterday, in the section titled Specifications, the Rudd Government reveals that the new $43 billion network will only be “extending to towns with a population of around 1,000 or more people.

“These 500,000 regional Australians have been told point-blank that they are second class citizens and can forget about the idea of equity with the cities.

“Another 1.5 million Australians will also be disappointed because Labor has said that its fast network will only extend to 90 percent of Australians. It is obvious that all of those abandoned in Labor’s new plan will come from regional Australia or in my own case remote areas of my electorate. Given the Government plans to take eight years to build its network constituents again will have to wait,” Philip Ruddock said.
