HORNSBY SHIRE COUNCIL RECEIVES NATURAL DISASTER FUNDING

The Member for Berowra welcomed the approval of Australian Government funding for a project that is important in his electorate.

"This local grant is for a project for Hornsby Shire Council - Building Bushfire Resilient Communities – Community Action and Strategic Asset Protection ($30,000),” Mr Ruddock said.

“The Natural Disaster Mitigation Program provides an excellent opportunity for all levels of government to work in partnership to reduce the immense toll that floods, storms, bushfires and other natural diasters thrive on.

“This funding will assist Council to construct permanent asset protections zones and develop a community bushfire education campaign.

“The community bushfire education campaign will enhance community knowledge regarding bushfire preparedness and response and increase the community’s capacity for self reliance during a bushfire and help locals,” Philip Ruddock said.

The Australian Government’s 2008-09 Budget contained another $18.6 million for the Natural Disaster Mitigation Program over this financial year.
