NATIONAL DISABILITY AWARDS
Applications for the National Disability Awards need to be lodged by Friday, July 16 2010.
Federal Member for Berowra , Philip Ruddock said the awards seek to acknowledge the achievements and contributions which individuals with a disability make to our community, and recognise individuals, organisations and businesses which have improved opportunities for people with a disability ‘such as greater inclusion, participation or employment’
There will be an Awards Ceremony in the Great Hall of Parliament House in Canberra on Tuesday 23rd November in the lead up to the International Day of People with a Disability which will take place on December 3rd.
Mr Ruddock said there are a range of categories, with details available at www.idpwd.com.au.
‘The Young Disability Challenge Award is for people aged 12 – 25 who have advanced the rights of people with a disability.’
‘There is a Small & Large Business Award for those who have improved opportunities for people with disability such as greater inclusion, participation and employment.’
‘Schools and community groups can nominate if they have actively built in inclusion and full participation of people with a disability alongside other students or members.’
Mr Ruddock said he encouraged people to think about this program as it provided a tangible way in which to celebrate and recognise people who live their lives with the challenge of a disability and those who care for and support them.
