No progress on Pennant Hills Road under Labor

The critical issue of the M2 to F3 ‘missing link’ was raised again this week in Federal Parliament.

Following questioning by local MP Philip Ruddock, the Federal Minister for Transport, Anthony Albanese confirmed that the NSW Labor Government is the obstacle to progressing this much-needed project.

‘In response to my questions, the Minister himself stated that ‘the New South Wales government needs to determine its position as to whether it will proceed with this project’.

“Further, the Minister acknowledged, in an understatement, what those of us who use Pennant Hills Road have long known, and that is that the ‘F3 to M2 is an important project’”.

Mr Ruddock said the NSW State Labor Government must act to give priority to the project.

‘Rather than allow funds to languish in its Nation Building program, the Federal Government ought to be pressing its NSW comrades to prioritise this project.’

It is noted that you do not specify the 'missing link' so one must assume that you are still supporting the 8km tunnel under Pennant Hills Road.

One wonders when you will be tempted to review your position. The long awaited Moroney report into the catastrophic F3 incident of April 12 is a case in point with one the recommendations being the establishment of 9 depots along the F3 for emergency food and water. Does this suggest that the F3 south of Gosford is a statisfactory major highway now, let alone alone into the future.

If an expensive tunnel were to proceed the construction of a western route would be decades away, and the traffic load (and particularly heavy freight) on the F3 would progressively worsen from its already stressed state.

To put it in the political vernacular - it's the F3 stupid!

I responded to your June 18, 2009 blog on this subject and am saddened to see that it has been deleted. I will resubmit it for the record.
