$1.5 MILLION AVAILABLE TO FUND LOCAL COMMUNITY PROJECTS
The Member for Berowra, Philip Ruddock MP said today that local communities across his electorate have been invited to apply for funds to develop projects that will promote Australian values, integration, mutual respect and understanding among all Australians. The funding will assist communities in building greater levels of respect and understanding and promote stronger community relations.
“Community projects funded under the Living in Harmony programme assist not-for-profit community organisations, schools and local government bodies to develop projects that focus on bringing people together to promote shared Australian values and mutual respect,” Mr Ruddock said.
“Communities are in the best position to identify locally relevant solutions. The $1.5 million available to fund community projects will provide resources to organisations to develop community focused solutions.”
Now into its eighth funding round, the Living in Harmony programme will allocate between $5,000 and $50 000 per project to successful applicants.
“Already the Federal government has received over several hundred enquiries regarding this year’s programme. I encourage all community organisations to consider how they can assist in building greater levels of respect and understanding and to apply,” Philip Ruddock said.
Applications for Living in Harmony funded community projects will be accepted from incorporated not-for-profit community organisations, schools and local governments. Applications must be lodged with the Department of Immigration and Citizenship by 5pm Eastern Standard Time, 27 April 2007.
