NEW LOCAL PARTNERSHIP TO ASSIST 13 – 19 YEAR OLDS INTO FURTHER EDUCATION
A new Partnership Outreach Education Model (POEM) Programme will commence short in the local area.
“I am sure that my Federal colleagues in bordering seats (North Sydney, Warringah, Bennelong and Bradfield) warmly support this announcement to deliver POEM services across this region with TAFE NSW (Northern Sydney Institute) selected as the successful organisation to deliver these services,” Mr Ruddock said.
The Australian government announced funding for the POEM programme in the 2006 Budget with this programme targeting young people aged 13 to 19 years who have dropped out of school.
This programme will provide these young people with another chance at learning through flexible accredited education and training options, delivered in setting in which they feel comfortable,” Philip Ruddock said.
POEM is an element of the Career Advice Australian initiative, a comprehensive national career and transition support network for all young people to make a smooth transition from school to further education, training or employment.
Over the next three years POEM providers will deliver the programme in every state and territory, working in partnership with other organisations and community service agencies in their local community to ensure the young people receive the level of support they require.
“This programme will be warmly welcomed by students and their parents in the local area” and will provide assistance to local young people to reach their full potential by offering social and life skills training and career support advice to ensure the young people receive the full support they deserve,” Philip Ruddock said.
