MORE SUPPORT FOR DISADVANTAGED JOB SEEKERS – 12 MORE SPECIAL JOBS FOR LOCAL AREA

The Member for Berowra, Philip Ruddock MP said today that an extra 12 Personal Support Places (PSP) will be available to assist the most disadvantaged job seekers find a job in his electorate under the Coalition Government’s Welfare to Work Program.

“The PSP provides assistance to people who face a number of barriers to participating in the workforce, such as homelessness, drug or alcohol abuse or mental illness. The program provides practical support to assist more disadvantaged job seekers in the workforce and will be undertaken by Mission Australia,” Mr Ruddock said.

The PSP is offered by specialist agencies which have locations in urban and regional communities throughout Australia. The service helps on a one-to-one basis, usually over a two year period.

“With the unemployment rate at record lows thanks to the responsible economic management of the Howard Government, we now have a great opportunity to get the more disadvantaged into work,” Philip Ruddock said.

Across Australia, an extra 3,053 places has been provided to assist and support those people who face extra hurdles to entering the workforce.

“While we have a record low unemployment rate, there are still those in our community who should be given every opportunity to get out and get a job based on their abilities,” he said.

“This announcement shows the Coalition Government philosophy that the best form of welfare is a job is working, and they are backing it up with practical measures.”
