LOCAL MP TO PRESENT ST AGATHA'S PRIMARY SCHOOL WITH A $5,000 HIGH COMMENDED AWARD
The Member for Berowra, Philip Ruddock MP said today that he is pleased to present tomorrow to St Agatha’s Catholic Primary School Pennant Hills a cheque for $5,000 under the National Literacy and Numeracy 2007 Highly Commended Awards Program.
“This local school is one of 41 exceptional schools across the country to receive this important recognition, plus $5,000 in prize money for their commitment to improving literacy and numeracy standards,” Mr Ruddock said.
A key priority for the Australian Government is that all Australians, particularly young people, develop effective literacy and numeracy skills. Improved literacy and numeracy outcomes encourage higher school retention rates, lead to improved employment opportunities, enhance engagement in society and support future economic prosperity.
“I congratulate St Agatha’s School and principal Mrs Meredith Tomkins on their award, and commend the school on their success in winning their Highly Commended Award,” Philip Ruddock said.
“These Highly Commended Awards are part of a range of exciting activities that celebrates the National Literacy and Numeracy Program. Now in its ninth year this event is an Australian government initiative conducted in collaboration with state and territory governments and this year focuses on the theme Making a Difference.”
“I encourage our local community to continue an interest in this Program.”
