LAUNCH OF FEDERALLY FUNDED RURAL FIRE ZONE TRAILER

The Member for Berowra, Philip Ruddock MP said that the rural fire trailer was funded from the 2006 Emergency Management Australia (EMA) grants which is a Federal government grant under my own department of Attorney-General.

“The total funding amount was $12,800, which included the trailer and DVD unit and the design and fit out was carried out by volunteer members from Mt Kuring-gai Rural Fire Brigade,” Mr Ruddock said.

“To date, the trailer has been utilised at a large variety of events including school fete's and other celebrations, Bunning’s displays, McHappy day, council free tree days etc. and it will be a focal point in the upcoming Rural Fire Service open day and seasonal firewise street meeting and public events.

The Hornsby Rural Fire Service plays an enormous part throughout my entire electorate with 18 brigades within the district. brigades are arcadia, Berowra, Berowra Waters, Brooklyn, Canoe- lands, Cherrybrook, Cowan, Danger Island, Dural, Galston, Hornsby, Hornsby Heights, Milson’s Passage, Mt Ku-ring-gai, Westleigh. Glenorie, Maroota and Wiseman’s ferry brigades, as well as catering and communication areas which provide fire protection and assistance within the Hornsby area and managed by the Baulkham Hills RFS.

“This opportunity also gives me a chance to acknowledge volunteers who have given exceptional service to the community - particularly locally in our high bush fire area,” Philip Ruddock said.

At the beginning of the year we experienced a serious fire burning some 965 hectares with over 800 volunteers and 170 appliances and aircraft needed. As well in June there was a storm that required the deployment of local task forces to assist the SES in the central coast region again using professionals and volunteers.
