LABOR THREATENS TO HALVE ROAD FUNDING

The Member for Berowra, Philip Ruddock MP said today that 134 constituents had joined the call for giving children a healthy future through more effective regulation.

“The Coalition on Food Advertising to Children (CFAC) is advocating for more effective regulations on food advertising to children,” Mr Ruddock said.

Their public advocacy campaign, Pull the Plug on Food Advertising has been supported by 20,521 Australians through a postcard petition.

These postcards were forwarded on to the Australian Communications & Media Authority when they began their deliberations on the review of the Children’s Television Standards.

“I support any consideration that may be given to examining extending regulations to reflect children’s peak viewing times on television more accurately; place the rights of children and parents above commercial interests; and include new standards addressing the advertising of unhealthy foods to children to better protect children in the current advertising environment.

“As a parent and grandparent I understand the need to ensure a good diet for everyone, particularly children in their growing years”, Philip Ruddock said.
