SUNSHINE HOMES NEW BUSINESS CENTRE OPENING

The Member for Berowra, Philip Ruddock MP said today that he is delighted to attend with Dr Brendan Nelson MP, the Member for Bradfield, a function on Monday 7 April at Unit 1, 10 Lymoore Avenue, Thornleigh to celebrate the opening of the new Sunshine Business Centre.

“Following Sunshine's devolution in December 2004, Sunshine has worked consistently to establish and develop all of its services in its community. The most recent project has been that of their employment services.

“The new site in my electorate at Thornleigh offers an improved work environment as well as the opportunity to expand all aspects of employment opportunities and work experience for people with intellectual disabilities,” Mr Ruddock said.

A key service operating out of this location will be MailPlus. MailPlus that has evolved from the Adult Training Centre within the grounds of their Gore Hill site in 1961 to the present site. Their objective at MailPlus is to provide meaningful employment opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities to prepare them for transition to independent employment.

“I support Sunshine is their efforts of competitive prices and on time delivery which allows them to generate new satisfied customers.

“Sunshine’s quality control and customer service ensures that they are able to provide high standards and maintain their core customers.

Their normal services would include mailing, light packing/assembly and pre-packing of promotional packs,” Philip Ruddock said.

Another arm of their employment service is Employment Solutions - it provides individual employment opportunities for people with an intellectual disability with a focus on what people can do rather than what they are unable to do.

Sunshine specialises in offering training and guidance to assist people with an intellectual disability to secure independent jobs in the community. They work closely with employers to match identified tasks within the workplace with a suitable employee from their agency.

“They provide training and ongoing support to both the new employee and their co-workers. This support package includes disability awareness training, co-worker support, personal development and problem solving skills, and I wish them well,” Mr Ruddock said.
