CERTIFICATES OF APPRECIATION CEREMONY FOR OVERSEAS VOLUNTEERS
The Member for Berowra, Philip Ruddock MP is to present volunteers’ certificates under the 2008 Certificate of Appreciation Program.
“It is a pleasure to recognise the efforts made by constituents who have served abroad. Eight constituents are eligible for a certificate having served overseas, some who having returned to Australia and have returned overseas to serve again and therefore unable to attend the ceremony this week,” Mr Ruddock said.
The constituents attending the ceremony are:
Ms Kathryn Michie who served in Cambodia and lives in Hornsby
Mr Andrew Beard who served in Vietnam and lives in Galston
Mr Keiran Byrne who served in Vietnam and lives in Normanhurst
Through the Certificates of Appreciation Program (CAP), the Australian Government officially recognises the valuable contribution Australian volunteers make to Australia’s overseas aid program.
These certificates are presented to returned volunteers who have served with accredited volunteer-sending organisation in Australia.
It is estimated that over 12,000 Australians have served as part of these volunteer programs, some of which are funded through the Australian Government’s overseas aid agency – AusAID.
Volunteers’ service varies from several weeks to the longest serving volunteer who served in the community health in India for 31 years.
“I am delighted to be able to recognise the hard work of these volunteers and congratulate them personally for their unstinting service,” Philip Ruddock said.
