LOCAL ORGANISATIONS RECEIVE VOLUNTEER GRANTS

The Member for Berowra, Philip Ruddock MP said today that he was pleased to see so many local organisations named in the Volunteer Grants Program for 2008 released this week.

Some of the organisations are:

Wiseman’s Ferry and District Youth Sport
To encourage children into sport $4,000

The Probus Club of Cheltenham Computer training
$5,000

Sydney Upper North Shore Suns Table Tennis
Promote healthy lifestyle $2,000

1st Cherrybrook Scouts Association
Program support $1,800

Saints Care Ltd
Looking after elderly people in the electorate $4,000

Probus Club of Beecroft
To encourage social interaction $1,760

New South Wales Fire Brigade (Asquith)
Fire protection and promoting awareness of fire safety $1,156

Hornsby Woodworking Men’s Shed
Manufactures toys and equipment for the disadvantaged $3,034

Hillside Rural Fire Brigade (Glenorie) Fire protection and promoting awareness of fire safety $5,000

Galston Equestrian Club
Promotes social participation through sport $5,000

Dural and Hills District Garden Club
Volunteer gardening program in nursing homes and Open Garden weekends $1,987

Beecroft Cheltenham Civic Trust Aims to help ensure that the availability of services are reaching the local community $1,980

CBC Golden Oldies Cricket Club (West Pennant Hills)
Facilitation competitions for the community for local senior citizen $1,735

Berowra and District Orchid Society Inc.
Promotes orchid growing in the wider region $3,600

Baulkham Hills Communications Rural Fire Brigade (Kenthurst) 3 grants
Fire protection and promoting awareness of fire safety $11,300

This $21 million nationally Volunteer Grants Program provides funding of between $1,000 and $5,000 for not-for-profit organisations to purchase small equipment and sporting items and to contribute to their volunteers’ fuel costs.

Over, 7200 community organisations and an estimated 900,000 hard working volunteers throughout Australia will benefit from this funding. Much of the funding will meet fuel costs, or to purchase items such as computers, printers, barbeques, first aid kits and fridges.

“I warmly congratulate these organisations and know how much they will benefit from these grants”, Philip Ruddock said.
