ORGAN DONATIONS SAVES LIVES

ORGAN DONOR AWARENESS WEEK (21-28 FEBRUARY 2009)

The Member for Berowra, Philip Ruddock MP said today that the 2009 Organ Donor Awareness Week is an opportunity to celebrate the gift of life given by thousands of organ donors over the years.

“Organ Donor Awareness Week highlights the importance of organ and tissue donation for transplantation in Australia and provides an important additional focus on our goal as a nation to raise donation rates and I urge constituents to consider organ donation or at least discuss this with their family,” Mr Ruddock said.

“It is a very simple message – organs save lives and organ donation save lives and transforms lives and registering as an organ donor is a selfless act that can give Australians the opportunity of a longer and a better life.

“The gift of organ donation can mean the return of sight, or the freedom from a dialysis machine, or help in so many other ways.

“Organ Donation Awareness Week is a chance to thank the donors and the families of donors, and to remind all constituent’s to register on the Organ Donor and to think about the importance of organ donation and the benefits that flow to so many families by registering,” Mr Ruddock said.
